Alexei capsized 600 miles from Newport, broke his mast in 3 pieces and damaged his rudder beyond repair. He jury-rigged and sailed to Newport in about 25 days steering with the sails on the southwest wind. He had Roger Taylor's book along and he says it helped him after the dismasting. He reports that George Pike and others at Newport Yacht Club have been unbelievable in their assistance to him. They found him a free mooring in the harbour so that he could live on the boat and spend his days at the yacht club on his computer and walk around town. Some local people have arranged for him to leave his boat at Fort Adams for the winter at no cost. George Pike took him around and they found a used mast that fits his boat for $200. His son and friends from his home town have raised enough money for a ticket home. He is leaving the US on Sept 2 and flying home. He will make the rudder parts he needs this winter and return in the spring to repair the boat and sail home.  He plans to spend the winter of 09-10 in St Petersburg and then sail to Plymouth in spring 2010 for the start of the Jester Challenge.
