Andromeda is a Warsash One Design, 26ft 8in LOA, sloop rig.

Andromeda is Sherman and Karen’s first boat. Purchased in 1989, and sailed extensively to the Scillies, Channel Islands and France, she quickly began to fall apart, which led to a four-year rebuild in time for the 1996 Single-Handed Trans-Atlantic Race (STAR). During the race, Sherman diverted to St John’s, Newfoundland, as a result of Hurricane Bertha, landing 28 days after leaving Plymouth. The return trip was a staggering 16-day downhill run.

In 2000, Andromeda having been excluded from the NewMan STAR by size, departed an hour after the official racing fleet. Sherman reached Newport, Rhode Island, 38 days later, beating by a day and a half the 32ft sloop which won the 'Jester Cup'. Karen met up with Sherman and Andromeda in Newport and after restocking water and beer, they all set off for the UK. They diverted to Halifax, Nova Scotia, due to repeated becalmings and concerns that the hurricane season was beginning. Andromeda wintered in Ketch Harbour, NS, and Sherman sailed her back to Plymouth in 2001.
